Suggested Equipment
Rods:
-
A 7 or 8 wt rod will work well for 90% of what we do.
-
You can go down to a 4 or 5 wt for bluegill back in the freshwater, though a heavier rod may be better since you never know what they might eat.
Lines, Leaders, Tippett:
Fluorocarbon bite tippets are recommended to keep from breaking off on the many sharp oyster beds in the area and also because you never know when a species with an abrasive mouth or sharp gill plates (tarpon or snook) might grab your fly.
-
Floating lines to match your rod weight.
-
16 or 20# tippet for trout and redfish with a section of 30# fluorocarbon bite tippet.
-
16 or 20# tippet for snook with a 40# fluorocarbon bite tippet.
-
For Largemouth Bass I fish a floating line with 16 - 20# tippet with 30 - 40# bite tippet.
Flies for Redfish, Snook, Trout and Bass:
All flies should have weedguards.
-
Poppers and gurglers - 1 to 1/0
